Lonely Planet review

The Mariam is doubtless the best place to stay in town, with spotless rooms and bathrooms, good breakfasts, some of the most comfortable beds in Jordan and, best of all, Charl, the superfriendly owner. A swimming pool, bar and poolside restaurant were added in 2005, which makes the place great midrange value. Reservations are recommended. The hotel is located in a quiet residential district, two blocks northeast of the Al-Mouhafada Circle, an easy 10-minute walk from the town centre.

Charl can organise a taxi to/from the airport for a fee and transport south along the King's Highway to Petra.
