The amenity-rich Radisson delivers everything a business traveler could want in an amazingly central location. Its five-star pedigree is evident in the luxurious rooms, semi-Olympic (25m/82ft) swimming pool and remarkable city views from the 25th-floor restaurant.

Despite its less engaging chain-hotel features - the charmless, boxy exterior and the over-the-top grandiosity of its lobby - the Radisson's rooms have all the comforts you'd expect in a five-star, and its Plaza Independencia location is ideal for business travelers or anyone interested in exploring central Montevideo. The real kicker is the bird's eye view from the 25th-floor restaurant. From the top you can easily grasp the historical advantages of Montevideo's geographical setting between river and bay. It's also a perfect place to appreciate the city's modern-day charms: the waves crashing on the sand beneath the distant palms along the Rambla, or people hanging clothes on 5th-story rooftops that seem miles below. The Radisson's other claim to fame is its 5-star spa. Together with a solarium pool, sauna, gym and indoor jogging track, it takes up two whole floors of the building.
