Robert De Niro's much anticipated hotel finally opened in 2008 after massive delays and, true to form, Bobby didn't disappoint. You'd never guess this beautiful, light-filled boutique gem was once a grimy little parking lot.

Step right up to the tasteful wooden doors that will usher you into the massive brick expanse of the Greenwich Hotel, Robert De Niro's latest Tribeca venture. The elegant vaulted lobby, full of cozy couches and chairs, leads to smallish but tasteful rooms lining a serene inner courtyard. Each of the 88 rooms have floor-to-ceiling French doors that open right onto the flower-filled garden; dark, aged wood lining the floors; and the bathrooms are covered in Carrara marble. The hotel has 13 suites and no two are alike, some have saunas and some have fireplaces. There's also two 'artist ateliers' that are like duplex suites, with 30ft (9m) skylights, kitchens and separate offices. For the complete luxury experience, book the penthouse suite - a glass-enclosed airy perch replete with private deck and hot tub.
