Address: Koenigstrasse 63 , Nuremberg 90402, Germany Show on map
This quirky boutique hotel draws upon the legend of three ravens perched on the building's chimney stack, who tell each other stories from Nuremberg lore. Each of its 21 stylish, nonsmoking chambers tells a particular tale, from the life of Dürer to the journey of Germany's first locomotive. The owners have seized on the legend of the ravens to produce an ambience that is quirky and thoroughly entertaining. The lounge-lobby sets the tone, with a huge bucket object at reception, time-phased coloured lights and the very same blood-red sofa-chairs seen in Kubrick's film 2001. Among the junior suites, 'FC Nürnberg' has a net goal over the bed and a füssball table that converts to a writing desk, not to mention a free-standing bathtub. There's a little wellness area in the basement and staff couldn't be more delightful.

Nuremberg's museums are a strong reason to visit. Not two minutes' walk from the hotel, the Germanisches Nationalmuseum displays some of Albrecht Dürer's finest paintings such as Hercules Slaying the Stymphalian Birds. The Neues Museum is a sleek temple of modern art and design. Just a short stroll north of the hotel along Königsstrasse, you can sample regional fare among copper vats in the Barfüsser, a cellar brewpub.
Nuremberg's famous Lebkuchen, a spicy-sweet gingerbread biscuit, can be traced back to the ancient Egyptians who believed honey was a gift of the gods.
