For maybe the most imaginative pintxos in San Sebastián, a city renowned for its imaginative pintxos, there is no better place than La Cuchara de San Telmo (Calle de 31 de Agosto). Here you'll be able to experience the delights of carrílera de ternera al vino tinto (calf cheeks in red wine) with meat so tender it starts to dissolve almost before it's past your lips.

How to get there

• From the RENFE train station, it's about 20 mins. on foot to the hostel. Walk to the 'Boulevard' passing McDonalds, walk as far as Narrica street, then walk down that street, Ibai is at the far end.
• From the Euskotren train station, it's about a 20 minute walk to the hostel. Buses #26 and #28 will take you to the boulevard, then just walk down Narrica st. Ibai is @ the bottom of the st. beside San vicente. (old church) From the bus station it is a 20 minute walk to the hostel. Buses #26 and #28 go the boulevard.
• Taxis from any of these stations will cost from 2.50 euro to 4.50 euro.
