Originally called Casa de los Mestizos, this used to be the backpacker spot in Suchitoto, but the new ownership seems to be resting on past laurels. Dos Gardenias definitely looks the part - with a mango-shaded courtyard, an artsy lounge bar and a young go-with-the-flow atmosphere. But below the surface, the rooms are grubby, the bathrooms neglected and service is reluctant at best. If you can do without the scene, Villa Ballanza and El Obraje are cleaner and better value.
