Lonely Planet review

This small hotel, located in a not-particularly-well-cared for apartment block, is in a good Downtown location. It's more of a hostel, with 17 very basic rooms and 5 shared bathrooms, but at least the management is friendly.

This place has a homely feel and, despite the Egyptian mum in the kitchen, its general condition is more student digs than grandma's cosy abode. While the walls have been painted brightly, it can't disguise the unrestored nature of the dwelling. There are high ceilings, faded floorboards and balconies that need a re-paint. As there are fans only, visitors during the height of summer might find this place a little uncomfortable. The five shared bathrooms are a little grotty and not very welcoming. Like most hotels in Cairo, they organise day tours, and have special prices for students. Most of the guests here are students and it's a reasonable place for backpackers who aren't going to hang around the hotel.
