This backpackers is set in a nice old building, with high-quality facilities and good security - it's a good option if you're looking to avoid a rowdy atmosphere but still be in a handy location.

The entrance is next to the Maharajah Restaurant - look out for the flags from different countries hanging off the balcony. Once upstairs, you'll be greeted by a great Brett Murray perspex wall light (in the shape of a red glowing Afroman) on the top landing. The veranda that runs around the building is well stocked with sofas and armchairs to help you while away an afternoon or two contemplating Long St life as it passes by two floors below. You can even buy some food and have a barbeque on the braai provided while you're at it. The dorms are small and quiet, with females and males as far as possible assigned different rooms. The cosy sitting room has a TV and plenty of travel information (the hostel is owned by a travel firm, Detour Travel, and staff here can always help with onward bookings).
