You might be put off by the name – particularly if you’ve already noticed the similarities on the sands – but this place hasn’t the slightest touch of the Costa del Sol about it. A stunning Portuguese villa filled with antiques and backed by a peaceful courtyard garden, this is a romantic, redolent old-world remnant. Its kitchen serves breakfast, lunch and dinner daily, with some imaginative touches, and its penthouse suite is a dream of polished tiles and four-posters. Sadly for kids with a keen sense of style, guests under 12 aren’t permitted.
