Address: Lakeside, Central , Pokhara , South asia
Set in a tidy garden across from the Royal Palace, Sacred Valley is a long-established traveller favourite. All the rooms are well-maintained and those upstairs have gleaming marble floors and windows on two sides, allowing plenty of light to enter. In an area with hundreds of budget hotels, Sacred Valley stands out. For one thing there's the friendly service, which extends to excellent fresh breakfasts at the attached Monsoon Café. Then there's the general standard of cleanliness - it's worth paying extra for the gleaming deluxe rooms upstairs. Rooms are large, bright and well-appointed and there's a relaxed lounge downstairs where guests can check email and swap stories and trekking advice. As with most hotels in Lakeside there's a small private garden, but the gardeners take more care than most and the bougainvillea hedge provides a nice sense of privacy. This is a fairly quiet bit of Lakeside but there are plenty of restaurants a short walk east or north. Word is definitely out about this place so book well ahead of time.

Start out with breakfast at the cosy Monsoon Café then head out onto the lake - there's a boat hire station almost opposite the hotel. Stretch your legs by cycling to the International Mountain Museum then relax with a hot cuppa back in the guest lounge. For supper, go for a Tibetan feast and a tongba (warm millet beer) at the Lhasa Tibetan Restaurant.
