Opened in the early 1950s, the large, classically decorated Ca'd'Oro was once among the grand dames of São Paulo's early hotels. While times have changed and the action has moved elsewhere, the Grand Hotel lives on, offering spacious rooms with antique-like furnishings.

A stroll through the lobby and hallways of the Grand Hotel is like stepping back in time. Heavy, dark-wood furnishings lurk in every corner, while a red-coated barman whips up potent drinks in the adjoining wood-paneled bar. Artwork lines the hallways, beneath faintly glowing chandeliers. In the rooms, the stolid design sense continues with immense wooden headboards, old-fashioned sitting chairs and sand-colored carpet. Having been designed in the 1950s, the rooms are much more spacious than recently conceived options, and each one has a small anteroom, which is a quaint but not terribly useful feature. The hotel also has good service, an excellent restaurant and several attractive swimming pools.
