Lonely Planet review

Well-organised and centrally located, this HI-AYH hostel has 250 beds (linens provided) in various-sized rooms that are pretty much hostel-standard. A bonus: organised outings including night tours of the monuments, bar crawls and concerts at the Kennedy Center.

From the distance, this urban hostel looks like a faded grand hotel, what with its classic 1920s brick and stone facade. But inside it's pure hostel, with well-kept facilities that include modern bathrooms and kitchen, dining and lounge rooms with a big-screen TV, coin laundry, storage lockers and free Internet access. The on-site travel office is helpful and convenient. Although this neighbourhood is not as exciting as, say, Adams-Morgan, it is closer to the action during the day and is convenient to many transportation options. In fact the surrounding blocks are going through something of a boom as evidenced by the many construction cranes looming overhead. Like many a hostel, this is a great place to meet travellers from around the world.
