Address: 6 dr abdel hamid said, Downtown , Cairo , Egypt Show on map
Despite the scruffy Downtown address, the Odeon has oodles of charm and character. Rooms are clean and comfortable and the rooftop bar has neighbourhood views. Around here horses are sometimes tethered on the footpath and locals pull over in their cars and proceed to replace the engine at the side of the road. The Odeon holds its own in terms of character; the carved wooden entrance is beautiful, inside are wooden mashrabiya lattice-work screens, dark wooden-carved ceilings, framed photos of old Cairo, and parquet floors. While they're no match for the foyer, the rooms fit the style of the hotel and cleaners take pride in their work - the bathrooms and carpets are spotlessly clean. The 10th-floor restaurant and terrace rooftop bar have heaps of character and make a good spot for a post-sightseeing beer.

'Hey Mustafa, is my clutch-plate ready?' is mostly what you'll hear (in Arabic, of course!), in the neighbouring streets. Having said that, there's some interesting sheesha (tobacco smoked through a water pipe) bars around and you're within comfortable walking distance of all the Downtown sights.
