One of the best places to stay in Mali, Mac's is indeed a refuge. Rooms are beautifully presented, each individually styled to reflect the culture of Mali's many ethnic groups (eg Bobo masks, Bozo fishing nets and Tuareg leather cushions). It's stylish but never overdone. The food here is legendary.
There's a bountiful and downright delicious banquet meal of a different world cuisine - Indian, Italian, Asian, etc - every night at 19:00. Just as exceptional are the buffet breakfasts (which are included in the room and camping rates) where pancakes and home-made yoghurt will have you making plans to extend your stay. Mac is a gem. A lifelong resident of Mali, his understanding and practical knowledge of the region is encyclopedic and his knowledge is supplemented by a small reference library that guests can peruse. Best of all, he's a qualified masseur. Add a small pool, hospitable staff that offer a warm welcome when Mac's not in residence, and a list of recommended guides to the Dogon Country and you'll soon see why it's so popular.
