What's this? A hotel in Monaco for under 80.00? Surely there must be some kind of mistake! Well, actually there is - strictly speaking, the Azur isn't in Monaco, but in the suburb of Beausoleil, just uphill from Monte Carlo proper, but still within walking distance of the main sights. This fab little hotel would be a steal almost anywhere along the Côte d'Azur, but this close to Monaco it's nothing short of a monetary miracle. Housed in an attractive cream-coloured building on Beausoleil's main street, it's a quintessentially French cut-price hotel run with a reassuringly laid-back Mediterranean attitude. The cosy rooms are fantastic value for money: all have satellite TV, air-con, and small ensuites, and most have miniature sun-trap balconies and vintage shutters to keep out the worst of the street noise. It's not without its faults - the decor is looking a touch threadbare in places, and the rooms can feel rather stuffy on a hot Mediterranean day - but these are minor quibbles. Look no further if you're after a budget base in the principality.

Beausoleil's buzzy little market is an excellent spot to pick up some fresh supplies - unfortunately, picnicking in any of the principality's impeccably manicured parks is illegal.
