In suburban Jan Juc, just west of Torquay, this bright, two-storey apartment is something of an anomaly. Everyone else is cream brick and retirement tiles but these guys have a fab bush-garden deck and a sexy king-sized bed. It's enough to set golf course sexagenarian hearts aflutter.

Backing onto the local tennis courts, golf course and the Bob Pettit Parklands, you'd be forgiven for expecting to be put through some kind of awful health-farm regime here. Don't fret - everything at this cool, wood-lined retreat is low-key and far from exerting. The private self-contained apartment sleeps families or couples, with gas cooking facilities, TV, video, BBQ, two-person spa, crisp linen. A veritable bevy of native parrots, magpies, rosellas and mudlarks chatters away outside the windows. Opt to make your own breakfast, or have provisions provided.
