Situated in the heart of the Balagne village of Pigna, a haven for Corsica's arts-and-crafts resurgence, this delightful guesthouse is crammed to the rafters with artistic flair. The Casa Musicale is one of those places where you can feel the crackle of imagination and creative energy at work.

The Casa Musicale was founded by an artists' co-operative dedicated to reviving interest in the traditional art-forms and cultural customs of rural Corsica. The seven bedrooms are all named after different voices employed in Corsican polyphonic singing. Our picks are Bassa, with its vaulted ceiling and shady location; Sulana, with its own private mountain outlook terrace; cosy Latina, with a romantic feel and sweet sea view; and king-size Terza, designed for families or couples who value a bit more elbow room. Outside is a lovely rustic patio and a spankingly good restaurant (lodged in the mansion's former olive mill) which serves up authentic country food using locally sourced ingredients wherever possible, and offers divine views across the Balagne countryside (the sunset view is really something else). With a bit of luck you might even be serenaded by traditional songs while you dine.
