Awaken to the cacophony of church bells ringing out on Sunday mornings from Les Réformés, the distinctive twin-steepled church, which is just up the street from the sweet, petite Hôtel Lutétia.

Efficiently run by engaging staff and owned by the Paulin family, who have a handful of other boutique Marseille hotels, the 29-room Lutétia's immaculate rooms are reached by a doll-sized lift and have fresh blue and white colour schemes. They are equipped with wall mounted TVs, phones and bathrooms that are spacious in comparison to the smallish rooms (most have a shower and bidet, just five have bath tubs, so request one when you book if you'd like to soak). There's free wi-fi throughout the hotel, and a free online computer in the lobby which can be accessed 24 hours. Just a clutch of tables occupy the breakfast area, so allow time to get a seat if you're starting your day here. Underground public parking is literally at the front doorstep, and Gare St Charles is just a few minutes' walk.
