Easily the city's most charming and friendly budget option, Roma has long been popular for its old-world elegance, spacious rooms and peaceful ambience. Rooms have high ceilings, big French doors to the balconies, polished floorboards and a splendid breakfast room.
As soon as you get out of the lift you know that this is a great budget property. Instead of being greeted by grubby carpets and indifferent staff, there's lovely white billowing curtains (along with some funky retro chairs) gracing the corridor that leads to a reception desk with friendly, relaxed and helpful staff. The atmosphere is lovely, homey and full of character. The rooms are huge (some absolutely enormous with several rooms in one 'apartment') and boast antique or interesting old furniture - mismatched, perhaps, but this is a very minor quibble. The only potential hiccup is for those visiting at the height of summer, as there is no air-con, only fans (for an extra cost). There is a lovely sitting room/TV room, where you'd be more than happy to sit with a beer while you write some postcards.

From Airport
By Taxi;(50 to 60 LE)
By Public Bus: direction ABDEL MONEM RIAD Square; #356 with AC (EGP 2.00) or #27 (EGP 1.00) or #400 (EGP 0.50). From the square take a taxi (5 to 10 LE) or take a fifteen minute walk to the Pension. From the square take MAHMOUD BASSIOUNY St to TALAAT HARB Sq. Take KASR EL NIL St. all the way to MOSTAFA KAMEL Sq. Turn left into MOHAMED FARID St. The Pension is located after the second traffic light on the right hand side. Above Gateneyo department store.
From Ramsis Train Station
By taxi: (5 to 10 LE)
Walking: 10-15 min
Take GOMHOUREYA street up to OPERA Sq. Turn right into ADLY St. At the first traffic light take a right into MOHAMED FARID St. Pension Roma is on your right hand side.
From Tourgoman Bus Station
By taxi; (5 to 10 LE)
Walking: 20-25 min
Take GALA'A St to 26 OF JULY St. Walk down 26 OF JULY St in the direction of AZBAKEYA Gardens. Turn right into MOHAMED FARID St. The Pension is on your left hand side.

Author Tip
This is a great little part of the Downtown area. On the walk up to and around Midan Orabi there are several cafes and bars. The walk down along Sharia Talaat Harb to the midan (square) of the same name offers up a great slice of Cairo life.
