Lonely Planet review

A boutique hotel of just 20 rooms, this classy little establishment is set on a small island of land between the much larger American Colony, Olive Tree and Novotel hotels. Although relatively new, the place is done up in 1920s decor, with elegant silk curtains, crushed velvet chairs, heavy oak desks and a predilection for the colour burgundy.

Entry to the hotel is through an arched wooden doorway that leads to a quaint lobby filled with the soft sounds of piano Muzak. A sharply dressed bell boy will show you a variety of rooms. The superior rooms are en suite with a couch and kitchenette. Some bathrooms have tubs that double as a Jacuzzi. All are nice, though somewhat overembellished to the point of tacky. The hotel also has a small unkempt garden and a business centre with free Internet. The Bedouin-themed restaurant, decorated with colourful wall hangings and blue lamps, has a decidedly non-Middle Eastern menu, with mostly American and Italian options that range from cheeseburgers to penne with vegetables. Meals are reasonable at 40.00-50.00. There's also a range of desserts, including apple pie and banana split, or you can puff on a sheesha (water pipe).
