One of Estonia's finest places to stay - and dine - the Ammende is an experience in itself. The 1905 Russian Art Nouveau mansion is an aesthetic masterpiece, and the luxury suites inside it are styled with such care and finesse that they transport you instantly to another era. This is the place to pamper yourself with refined class and style.
There are no mud baths or suction cup massage cures offered here, and the clientele attests to this (not an ailing Finn in sight). The enormous suites are lavishly (though not garishly) furnished with period pieces which the owners have collected from homes across Estonia and had lovingly restored. They're mightily impressive but could be considered too old-world conservative for some. The standard doubles in the Gardener's House next door are slightly more modern and simply decorated. The hotel goes all-out to assure guests' comfort and entertainment - there are summer concerts on their well-tended lawns and winter picnics by a log fire. To complete the picture, their restaurant is renown as one of the country's finest.
