This guesthouse in the quietish Hanuman Ghat area is consistently popular with easygoing backpackers, and for good reason. It's relaxed in vibe without sacrificing cleanliness, reliability or basic comforts.

Panorama is the kind of place people tend to stay a while, many finding that they've come down with a serious case of the 'maybe just one more day' syndrome. Levels of room pizzazz vary widely. Some are bright and newly renovated, with shiny tiled floors and colourful wall paintings. Other rooms are more worn, with faded tapestries but delightful pluses like swinging hammock chairs. Rooms have mosquito nets, and all also come with attached bath and assurances of 'hot water no problems'. The chipper restaurant up top is very casual, serves good grub and is an ideal place to meet your fellow mellow traveller-kind. On the rooftop, you can also catch twice-weekly screenings of Octopussy - a James Bond flick which was, much to locals' pride, partially filmed in Udaipur and has been relentlessly dazzling screens citywide ever since its release in 1983.
