Lonely Planet review

'Small, clean and friendly' is their catch-cry, and it's pretty accurate. This 79-bed little charmer follows the small-is-better principle, offering simple, clean budget accommodation in an intimate setting with a touch of personality. Dorms may be tarted up in the near future as the relatively new owners are planning renovations.

One thing you get here is choice, from four- to 14-bed dorms. The larger dorm is generally appreciated by the hardened traveller or those too boozed up to care (or to hear the snoring). Decent double and twin rooms come with a handy fridge as well as bedside lamps and tables. The downstairs double is a bit noisy from the road but comes with plenty of natural light and has a nice feel. All dorms come with lockers and the four-bed dorms can vary in size and quality, so choose wisely. The basement lounge area is seriously comfy for those looking to settle in. Ask about the discount vouchers for the aquarium and the observation deck at the Rialto.
