Lonely Planet review

The vibe here is laid-back and group oriented with a distinctively raucous party atmosphere. Perks of staying here include satellite TV and a free breakfast available all morning - most guests sleep late.

Jean's place has a nice terrace with a good view of Mont Royal and a shared, fully equipped kitchen. This all-in-one sort of place has bicycles, cars and minivans for rent (ask about the Lincoln Continentals), and for winter fun you can hire cross country skis, ice skates or sleds. Fun-loving Jean enjoys showing tourists the town and organising group outings. Allergy sufferers take note: you'll be sharing space with Lulu and Bozo, the four-legged friends of the family. If you are a light sleeper, or prefer to hit the sack early, this noisy hostel is probably not for you. Look for Jean's name on the mailbox and be sure to bring cash, as credit cards are not accepted.
