Lonely Planet review

Formerly the Spadina Hotel, frequented by the likes of Jack Nicholson, the Rolling Stones, Leonard Cohen and the Tragically Hip, this hostel is one of the most happening in North America. Inside you'll find walls peppered with pieces of spontaneous artwork, the spaces filled in with bold, solid colors.
One thing should be said about the staff at Global Village - they've really got their act together. So do the folks at the on-site Travel Cuts, where you can book a range of tours or plan your next trip to Toronto. Rooms are scrupulously clean and with a busy bar, billiards room and cool patio out back, you may find yourself not wanting to venture out in the neighborhood. If you do, you'll find a mainly pre-theatre crowd; go north to Queen Street West for young crowds and alternative boutiques. The 200 beds fill up fast, so book ahead. Discounts are offered to members of SWAP/BUNAC or YHA hostelling. Their catchy slogan is 'Life's Too Short to Sleep Alone'. You can purchase a souvenir T-shirt emblazoned with these words of wisdom on your way out.
