Lonely Planet review

The friendly staff at this intimate hostel know how to have a great time, and how to run a hostel efficiently. Saturday nights are especially fun, with free BBQs in the summer on the back patio (pasta nights in the winter) and dress-up Halloween parties.

Planet Traveler's enjoys a great location in two houses amongst the colourful shops of Kensington Market. The ambience is more guesthouse than hostel, with dorms and privates occupying rooms of two quaint Victorian houses. Both buildings overlook the Bellevue Square Park and have their own patios and kitchens stocked with microwaves, fridges and plenty of pots and pans. The reception, Internet kiosk and TV lounge is in the main house to encourage guests from both houses to mingle. There are 9 privates and three dorm rooms (one male, one female and one mixed) with free linens, padlocks and no curfew. Shared bathrooms are kept in tip-top condition, and the TV room is full of plants, old novels and travel guides, plus a few videos. Stay six nights and the seventh is free. Guests over 19yrs are preferred.
