Lonely Planet review

Good deals can be had at the Kingston, especially off-season. Although the quality of the rooms differs greatly, a great downtown location, free breakfast and functional accommodation are the reasons many come back.

While some rooms at the Kingston have recently been revamped, most are basic and a bit worn: the fixtures and fittings will make you think you're staying in a 1940s rooming house. This European-style pension property has 16 en suites and 45 rooms with the kind of shared bathrooms that recall old-school hospitals. The recommended en suite rooms seem like they belong in a different hotel: they have new furniture, flatscreen TVs and fresh floral bedspreads. The hotel's public areas have seen most of the renovation efforts with a newly carpeted lobby and lounge. Rates include continental breakfast and additional amenities are available including a large pub and restaurant next door. The location, close to the sports stadiums and entertainment districts is the hotel's biggest plus but there's no on-site parking.
