All glass and light and lines, you'll seriously wonder if you've wandered into a modern architect's dream when you enter Sankt Petri. Situated in the deep end of the city's Latin quarter, this is the territory of the glamorous and the place to be seen.

The enormous lobby is minimalist, punctuated with little mermaid statues, fancy designer lights and the odd sensation of being in an empty marketplace. The hotel was, until recently, a shopping mall. Now it's got 270 beautifully decorated rooms with homely designer furnishings and (thankfully) cosier atmospheres than the lobby. Book one of the 55 rooms with a balcony if visiting in summer; not only will you get lovely views of neighbouring rooftops, you'll also have an airy escape from the somewhat stifling rooms. Downstairs is a terrace and a chic bar/restaurant. You can purchase caviar, CDs and herbal body scrubs from reception. Staff seem to have a little attitude, but then, they do work at the flashest place in town.
