Perched above the Loch Fyne restaurant on one of Bath's busiest shopping streets, Milsoms has a wonderful location close to everything the city has to offer. With its luxurious rooms and reasonable rates it's a good city bolthole for a weekend away.

Chocolate brown leather armchairs, silky smooth throws, taupe carpets, tasteful abstract art and large bathrooms full of Molton and Brown goodies set the tone of this chic hotel. The sleek, contemporary design, however, is tempered by the high ceilings, large windows and open fireplaces of the period Bath building - adding old-world charm on top of the modern luxuries. Some of the standard rooms are pretty compact though and it's worth upgrading to the enormous executive rooms with their deep leather sofas and free standing baths. The city centre location is incredibly convenient but it does mean you'll bear the brunt of late-night street noise, especially at weekends. There's no bar or lounge area, which feels a little strange, and without a lift the steep Georgian staircase can seem endless. Breakfast is in the restaurant below with fresh kippers making a wonderful change from the usual fry.
