One of the city's most affordable options, this is somewhere between a hostel and a hotel. They do simple, reasonably priced rooms with self-catering facilities in the working-class Kallio district. The emphasis is on the price tag so it may feel a little institutional if you're used to high-end hotels.

Rooms are simple (and have short beds), but they do come equipped with a small stove, a microwave and a fridge. The bathrooms are tiny, but the cheaper rooms share good facilities in the hall. Although the lobby has something of a Soviet-era feel, it is home to perhaps the Fenno's best feature: the reception staff, who make a big effort to be helpful and offer advice on what to do and where to go in Helsinki. The rate includes use of the sauna and a simple breakfast. There's a laundry and even a solarium, so you can surprise people back home by returning from a winter visit to Helsinki with an implausible suntan.
