If you want to get somewhere really out of the way, this could be the place for you. The bungalows are a bit shabby and the rooms shabbier still, but the location and ambience more than make up for it.

It's a miracle! One of French Polynesia's most remote and rugged lodging options is conveniently located on the island of Tahiti. Nestled at the base of sharp, pyramid-shaped mountains, there's a black sand beach in front, a little deck for sunbathing and plenty of walking opportunities in all directions. You're not going to be bothered by cars, hordes of tourists or anything belonging to the modern world out here. Surfers are well catered for with transfers out to the waves (at Teahupoo and beyond) for a fee. There's a communal kitchen or the gourmet-minded owners can cook up tasty meals. Although the place is not fancy by any means, it retains an air of surf-glam that can sometimes feel like attitude.
