Quick Links to Property Questions & Answers

Can I manage my inventory using a GDS?

Yes, as long as the GDS is compatible with the service. Your provider will be able to tell you if your GDS is compatible or what information you'll need to check.

Can the reviews be altered?

As the reviews are written independently and are the opinion of the author they cannot be changed. The only exception we make to this rule is when it is found that factual information is incorrect. For example, the author may have incorrectly noted that the property had four rooms when in fact it had five.

What are the main type of accommodation places being booked on Lonely Planet Hotels & Hostels? (Top End, Mid- Range, Budget)

This really depends on the destination, but generally Budget to Mid Range properties are the more popular, with those in the Top End range receiving fewer bookings.

top^

What is the average length of stay purchased?

The average length of stay being purchased through the service is 2.5 nights.

top^

What is the average number of bookings that the properties will receive from Lonely Planet Hotels & Hostels?

This really depends on the time of year, the destination, and the type of property – we don't have a quick answer for this, as so many variables are involved.

top^

Can I setup my own promotion?

At this point in time there are not a lot of options for adding promotions due to system limitations. You're able to add a room type and specify a date range and pricing for a special promotion, but there is currently no function for a Book two nights and get one free type of deal. We are always working on improving the functionality and have this earmarked for future development.

top^

Can properties add their own cancellation policy?

No, the service has a blanket cancellation policy of 24 hours which applies to all properties that join the service.

top^

Can properties have stay restrictions for particular dates?

Unfortunately no. Stay restrictions once set go across all room types for all dates, this is how our system currently works, although it may change in the future as development progresses.

top^

Is it possible to charge only room rates rather than the total including taxes?

No - all room prices must be inclusive of all taxes. This lets travellers know exactly how much the total is up front.

top^

When do authors come to particular countries to review properties?

Authors usually visit a destination every 18 months to 2 years depending on the publication schedule.

top^

Why can’t properties charge the guest’s credit card without the CVC number?

We currently don't store our customer’s credit card details. This is for legal and security reasons. We may store these in the future but for now we cannot send the CVC number via fax again for legal and security reasons.

top^

What are the criteria for being listed and reviewed?

There are no criteria. Our authors are independent and decide which properties to review and recommend.

top^

How often are Lonely Planet publications released?

Generally the more well known and popular titles are released every 2 years and the less well known every 3 years.

top^

Is there any fee involved with being reviewed and listed?

No, all reviews are completed by an independent author who is commissioned by Lonely Planet to visit a destination and experience different properties as well as restaurants, tours, sights and anything else a country has to offer.

top^

How long is the process of being reviewed once the properties submit the application?

This depends on the publication schedule, but can take anywhere up to 18 months and it is still dependant on whether or not the author chooses to visit the property.
