Tucked into a quiet little pocket of the city centre just a block from Eyre Square, the Victoria Hotel was only built in the 1980s, but its wide, old-fashioned lobby and languorous rooms the colour of autumn leaves, give the impression it's been here forever.

Even the personalised service has a gracious, old-fashioned feel at this 57-room hotel. But fear not - amenities are up-to-the-minute, with multichannel TVs, telephones, individual thermostat-controlled in-room heating, and comfy mattresses, as well as brand-new bathrooms that have been re-tiled top to bottom, include non-slip bathtubs, and are kitted out with Irish Natural Care bath products and hair dryers. A full Irish and continental breakfast with freshly baked bread is included, and from 08:00-21:00 you can get room service from the bar and restaurant downstairs (though there's no alcohol service). A lift allows for wheelchair access. If you're driving, be sure to get a hotel stamp to take advantage of discounted parking at Hynes Yard Car Park in Dock St.
