This deliciously vintage guesthouse flaunts retro savoir-faire from its polished wooden banister all the way to its creaking rafters. Plucked from a 1930s time capsule, it's thrust into the 21st century by way of liberal bohemian overtones.

A small courtyard with colourful upturned beer kegs and anarchic foliage buffers the front door from the esplanade. Inside, communal notice boards advertise jazz gigs and local muso events and the decor is a flurry of Art Deco and kitsch. There are just 10 double rooms, all of which reside upstairs via a splendid curling staircase. Each is individual in shape, size and atmosphere. Some come with small kitchenettes and balconies, others are intimate snugs made for romantic interludes; all have private bathrooms, TVs and ceiling fans. The larger rooms are capacious and a steal, with comfy settees and ocean outlooks. Floral bedspreads, speckled linoleum and quaint fixtures throughout amount to more character than a Parisian flea market and the owner wraps the whole lot up in genuine hospitality.
