Lonely Planet Review

Quotes Central and discrete, this boutique number has been in the business for many years, and shows its stripes with easy professionalism and unfailing quality. Accommodating an even measure of business and holiday travellers, it stocks its well-equipped rooms with stylish mod-cons and reliable comfort.

Rooms are dishy without stirring the imagination. All are self-contained and soft-lit. Furniture is Italianesque, as are the terracotta-urns and water-features. The kitchens are a little on the snug side, but the ample bathrooms encompassing private laundries compensate. Each room has a balcony, but the ever-developing landscape has diminished much of the water views. No matter - there are DVDs, VCRs and TVs for interior viewing. There's also a neat pool with a communal BBQ. The central location is definitely a high point of this property; everything is around the corner. Il Palazzo is popular with repeat offenders, owing in no small part to the personalised service.

Author Tip

Right next door are the Cairns Night Markets, brimming with 'I heart Cairns' t-shirts, pint-size didgeridoos (direct from Korea) and other kitschy Australiana, but a Cairns experience nonetheless. Amid the cheap garb are excellent massage stalls, hot and tasty fast food and the odd quality jewellery stand.
