One of São Paulo's architectural gems, the Unique (pronounced ooh-NEE-kee) is a fashion-forward hotel with a wild and quirky design aesthetic. From its soaring lobby to its imaginative guestrooms, there's much to discover inside the half-moon shaped Unique.Designed by Brazilian architect Ruy Ohtake, Unique was one of the world's most talked about hotels following its inauguration in 2002. The semicircular six-story building has an other-worldly appearance about it, its semispherical center resting on cantilevers, and flanked by two sheer concrete pillars that seem to spill from the roof like cascading fountains. Inside the rooms, the curiosities continue with portholes for windows, bathrooms with retractable glass screens (allowing guests to soak in the tub while gazing on the rest of the apartment), plasma-screen TVs concealed within the walls, and floors made of lovely blond woods that curve up to the ceiling on the end rooms. The lovely indoor and outdoor rooftop bar has exquisite views over the city. This is also where you'll find the glass-bottomed swimming pool, though you'll have an equally absorbing view of the aquatic action from the atrium on the first floor.
