With a fabulous beachside location, this charming terrace dates from 1879 and is Adelaide's budget golden child - for backpackers who want to surround themselves with character. Fan-cooled rooms sport period details and are bunk-free with four or five beds. There's nightly entertainment in the bar, an open fireplace and large plasma TV screen in the lounge, a pool room with jukebox and a courtyard garden. Rates include airport pick-ups.Just beneath street level at the front of the hostel is a comfortably worn-out multiroom bar embellished by old fireplaces and a pair of pool tables, while out back is a large, vine-screened courtyard. Dorms are all fitted out with single beds - no bunks here - and room prices include breakfast. Street-facing rooms are fronted by balconies, though these will obviously catch the significant night-time street noise. If you appreciate a greater degree of quiet and high ceilings, ask for one of the slightly smaller rooms at the back of the hostel.
