When the good times are rolling (and you can be sure they will be in a location where there are more pubs per block than parking spaces), you need a snug and cozy crash pad nearby. That's where La Chimba comes in, a centrally-located homestyle hostal.

More sedate than sister establishment Bellavista Hostal, Chimba receives good reviews from its international guests, although it could get higher marks for friendliness. Here's the plus: this comfy rambling house is smack in Santiago's best party neighborhood, but on a quiet tree-lined street. The ambience is modern and minimalist, and the 1st floor is dominated by small cafe tables and artwork. Saddle up to the corrugated tin bar for an espresso, or hang out at umbrella-shaded tables out front. Sunshine-yellow rooms have snug down bedding and certifiably comfy beds. Be warned: the hostel advertises a no over-40 policy. This is supposedly to discourage party-poopers, but they say they don't enforce it.
