If you don't find inner peace at this exquisite sanctuary then you need to find a karmic physician. Inspired by ryokan inns (traditional places of renewal and rejuvenation in Japan) this property is a serene getaway which strikes the perfect balance between traditional and modern. The minimalist rooms are a fusion of Japan and the west, with tatami matting, traditional screens and futons in the bedroom. Each has a cute window alcove with chairs looking onto a private patch of Japanese garden. The bathrooms, however, are all modern style, with sunken alabaster spa tubs set before floor-to-ceiling windows. Hidden behind the screened wardrobe is a mini bar with tea and coffee facilities but you could easily miss it, owing to the captivating, hand-woven silk kimono hanging from your wall. Rates include a Japanese breakfast (or muesli and fruit for the timid) and some packages include a four-course Japanese banquet dinner. All meals are served in the gloriously sunny and open dining room.
