Elvis Presley and Nancy Sinatra once splashed poolside at this impeccably kept 90-room Polynesian-style motor lodge (though not together, as far as we know). Today, non-celebrities are welcome too - including kids and pets.

Built 1964, Caliente Tropics has some authentic architectural details of that time - including the soaring, pointed archway at the entrance - and the giant tiki torches and totems are made for the kid in all of us. In the well-maintained rooms, ceiling fans above add to the tropical allure. Caliente Tropics may not be everybody's taste, though. The kid-friendliness may be a drawback if you're seeking a quiet getaway, certainly on weekends and during school vacation season. Rates vary widely based on date and availability - weekdays are cheaper and summer weekdays cheapest. Make reservations for pets.
