Though it's just outside the town center and its name really doesn't say 'Palm Springs', this beautifully landscaped, extra cozy, impeccably kept rancho-style motel (circa 1954) is tops in its class.

Alpine Gardens is set around a pool, with trompe-l'oeil paintings of vines, bricks and more all around the courtyard. Inside, the ten rooms won't win any points for being the largest in town, but you won't find anywhere else more old-shoe comfy and slightly kitschy. Look for redwood-beamed ceilings, wicker furniture, oriental carpets and floral-print upholstery. This place is so intimate that you can almost forget that it borders busy Palm Canyon Dr. Continental breakfast and wi-fi are included.
