Just one block west of Plaza Bolívar, the Conde enjoys a privileged position, and the elegant lobby is an attraction in itself. However, rates seem inflated for the minimally maintained accommodation. On-the-premises restaurants and bar ensure that you won't have to venture outside after dark. One of the few decent choices for travelers wanting to stay in Caracas' historic core, the hotel boasts a remarkably elegant lobby. Punctuated by fat pink columns and naturally illuminated through heavy blue curtains, it's a fine place to lounge around as portraits of Bolívar and other historic notables watch over you. If only the rooms could match the lobby's elegance. Although air-con units are new, furniture and carpets sorely need an upgrade and the decor looks as if it were done by frat boys in a creative mood. After hours, the centre virtually shuts down, but the hotel provides several dining options and a cocktail lounge.
