Lonely Planet Review

A step up from the usual hotel chain fodder, this well-established French-owned hotel is a little budget bijou, with mid-sized standardised rooms that are extremely comfortable. The lounge and breakfast areas are quite pleasant, the food is fine and the service is friendly and efficient.Chain hotels are never unique, often bland and sometimes brutal. Ibis is hardly the first, not much of the second (depending on your aesthetics) and as far from the third as any budget chain you'll find anywhere in Britain. In fact, the Ibis even manages to generate a little bit of character in the style and decor of its comfortable rooms. Pastel colours blend perfectly well with the lightwood furniture to give the place an airy feel, while the funky space-age bathrooms (a cylindrical capsule like one we'd imagine on a spaceship) add a contemporary touch that gives the whole place something of a futuristic look. The usual amenities are in every room: TV, tea-and-coffee making facilities, an ironing board and wi-fi (at a cost).
