Business people seem drawn to the Hyatt's signature masculine style - large, executive chairs and desks, and deep cocoa browns. Or maybe it's just that this property is so darn central. From the banks of Town Lake, you can get anywhere downtown in minutes - by foot or taking the gold 'Dillo trolley bus outside.Lake access has other advantages too. From here you can go for miles on the Town Lake hike-and-bike trail. And evening bat watching cruises leave from outside the hotel. Take advantage of the waterfront sunken pool and hot tub area after you've had your outing for the day. Up in the rooms, capital photos are nice as art, but the river view is better (it costs extra so request ahead). The glass elevators and atrium lobby date the building but dark colors and comfy beds envelope you in the thoroughly modern rooms. Staff can be a bit stand-offish (are all those European accents real?).

A little more than a half an hour before sunset, head to the Capital Cruises dock below the hotel for a bat-watching cruise. March to November nearly 1.5 million bats leave there under bridge roost to go out hunting for insects every evening. From the boat's deck, you'll have a prime viewing point.
