This charming collection of old adobe-and-wood cabins is built on and around the 'Oasis of Mara'. Dating to 1928, some of the lodgings here were built by area homesteaders. Many are artist-furnished and have features ranging from sun porches and vaulted ceilings to bay windows and fireplaces.

Birdwatchers will have a field day, with year-round residents around the oasis including owls, golden eagles, American kestrels and several hawk species. The inn's restaurant is unexpectedly gourmet. It makes its own bread, grills great steaks and serves a variety of nightly specials. Well worth a detour. Make reservations. During holiday periods such as Christmas the inn books out months in advance. Wireless Internet is available.
