A budget traveler's gem, Pousada dos Franceses is a laid-back guesthouse in a great location. The rooms are small and simple with tile floors, and the guests are a young mix of Brazilian and international backpackers. The big selling point here is the setting. The pousada sits on a quiet, tree-lined street that feels far removed from the hustle and bustle of Brazil's largest city. Yet just a short walk from the door lies the high-octane energy of Avenida Paulista (with the metro and MASP, one of São Paulo's best museums, conveniently close). The building is a low-rise converted residence, with a small green courtyard for lounging on warm days and mingling with other travelers. It has both dormitory rooms and private doubles (with or without private bathrooms), and all the amenities you'd expect in a hostel - a shared kitchen, a bulletin board with daytime and nightlife recommendations and internet access and wi-fi (5.00 per day) for those with a laptop.
