Eight kilometers east of the city on a quiet, leafy lane in the village of Tlalixtac de Cabrera, this Mexican- and American-owned house, 80% built of adobe bricks, is a charming rural retreat.

The three fan-cooled, nonsmoking rooms set round a beautiful little patio are full of exceptionally lovely art and artesanías. There's also an attractive separate apartment for one or two people and the owners will pick you up on arrival in Oaxaca and offer a free ride to town on your first day. This place is a good choice for visitors who seek a tranquil hideaway and don't mind a few taxi or bus rides to accomplish their sightseeing. There's a minimum stay of two or three days.
