Lonely Planet Review

Fronted by canals and graceful bridges, the five-star Venetian offers 'standard' suites that are anything but. In fact, they're the largest and almost the most luxurious in town. The newest Venezia Tower has a private pool and its own exclusive check-in and concierge level. The Venetian sets a sky-high standard on the Strip. Inspired by the splendour of Italy's most romantic city, the $1.5 billion megaresort is being developed in phases. Facing the Strip are reproductions of Venetian landmarks, including a doge's palace, campanile (bell tower) and a mini Rialto Bridge (with escalators!). Every suite is roomy, with wrought-iron railings and a marble foyer, a canopy-draped bedchamber and a sunken living room with a modern entertainment centre. It's linked to the ever-expanding Sands Expo convention centre, as well as the Grand Canal Shoppes mall, where jugglers and serenading sopranos stroll the cobblestone streets. Enjoy the state-of-the-art Canyon Ranch SpaClub and top-drawer gourmet restaurants, most notably Emeril Lagasse's Delmonico Steakhouse and a handful of French gems including star chef Thomas Bouchon's eponymous bistro.
