Lonely Planet Review

Quotes Run from a lovely comfortable house, this informal B&B offers heaps of character to a regular crowd of return guests. Many rooms have shared baths. Barbara Pope is the friendly no-nonsense host; if she has no vacancies, she'll help you book rooms at other B&Bs. Discounts are available for longer stays.

The cluttered, almost ramshackle rooms of this casual B&B give it a lived-in, homely feel. The old row house comes with bohemian flair, worn chests, patchwork quilts and an assortment of furniture from many periods and price tags. One of Philadelphia's longest running B&Bs, it has both simple rooms with shared baths, and larger suites with private baths (generally tiny) and kitchens, at least one of which is a low-ceilinged affair accessed by descending an excitingly steep spiral staircase.

Author Tip

This B&B is just off Antique Row, where the shops sell everything from grandfather clocks to cheap TV trays. Nearby is the Last Drop, a comfortable cafe favoured by art students, and Dirty Franks, the dive bar favoured by local architects. Good wandering can be found in the network of narrow cobbled alleys that intersect with Camac Street.
