Lonely Planet Review

Quotes This low-rise motel looks like it belongs by the side of the highway, instead of in the shadow of the Prudential Center, but its spacious, if plain, rooms fill up with families, businesspeople and tour groups.

Let's be honest: it's all about location, location, location here. That is, if you want to be within walking distance of concerts at Symphony Hall; shopping at Copley Place or the Prudential Center; perusing art at the Museum of Fine Arts; meditating at the Christian Science Center, watching baseball Fenway Park; and enjoying gay nightlife in the South End. If you're more keen on tooling around Beacon Hill, the North End or the Waterfront, you'll have to hop on the subway. Service is certainly friendly; the rooms are certainly simple and clean. Two great features include free parking and a rare outdoor swimming pool. On a wretchedly humid summer day in Boston, the latter is worth more than box seats at a Red Sox game. Kids under age 18 stay free in the same room as the adults.

Author Tip

Paved and landscaped, perfect for strolling or urban jogging, the Southwest Corridor Park is almost five miles long. It runs from behind the Copley Place mall on Dartmouth St to the Forest Hills T station near Arnold Arboretum. Walk northeast from Mass Ave for rewarding views of the Back Bay skyline. St Botolph St is also pleasant for walking.
